Abstract: Blockchain, the underlying mechanism behind the bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, is a revolutionary decentralized technology that is envisioned to be as impactful as internet. Technically speaking, the term blockchain refers to the combination of a number of technologies, including data structure, cryptography, distributed ledgers and consensus mechanisms.  In this talk, we start out by providing an overview of the fundamental concepts of blockchain. Then we present a couple of successful real-world applications that combines blockchain and AI technologies. In the end, from both academic and industrial perspectives we outline the challenges and opportunities down the road.
